Very Special Arts Collection
A collaboration between Qua and Very Special Arts (VSA) Singapore Ltd to introduce a collection of gift premiums featuring the artwork from VSA’s Arts for Livelihood and Employment (ALIVE) Programme. VSA is dedicated to provide individuals with special needs access to the arts, and aims to offer lifelong learning and career opportunities for people with disabilities.
Pathlight Artist Collection
Qua is privileged to partner with Pathlight School to introduce the Pathlight Artist Showcase – a collection of lacquerware featuring the designs from Pathlight students. Pathlight School is the first autism-focused school in Singapore that offers a unique blend of mainstream academics and life readiness skills and this collection’s unique design captures these special people who are quaint, insightful and fun.
The Singapore Bicentennial gifts comprise watercolour drawings commissioned by William Farquhar, the first Resident and Commandant of Singapore (1819-1823), during his prior tenure as Resident of Melaka. These natural history drawings depict the flora and fauna of the Malay Peninsula, most likely accomplished by local Chinese artists, with inscriptions identifying the species by their English and Malay names. The entire collection is now found in the National Museum of Singapore.
Inspired by the ceramics exhibition at the Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore, the Chinoiserie collection captures the coveted vessels that embodies the heritage and finesse of the Chinese Asian culture. These numerous ceramic artifacts found played an important role in understanding the formation and growth in trade and society in Singapore.
Ivory Nyonya and Peranakan Collections
The early Peranakans, adopted a practice of incorporating expensive decorative ceramic tiles into the interior and exterior of their houses as a reflection of their extravagant lifestyle and status. The Ivory Nyonya Collection explores a modern twist to the classic Peranakan tiles, whilst the Peranakan Collection aims to preserve and present the finest appreciation of the classical motif.
Sights & Sounds of Singapore
One of the cornerstones of Singapore’s success is the diversity of its population while maintaining racial harmony – The Harmony Collection was derived from symbols of the main ethnic groups in Singapore: Malay, Indian, Chinese and Eurasian.
One Line Singapore
Qua presents the icons of Singapore depicted through the unique technique of “One Line Drawing”. The One Line Singapore collection was created by our designer who drew iconic architectures of Singapore. Marina Bay Sands, the Changi Airport Control Tower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, Gardens by the Bay and the Merlion were chosen as the key icons to be represented.
A cherry blossom is the name for the flower of cherry trees known as Sakura. The Cherry Blossom is a symbol of good fortune and is also an emblem of love, affection and represents spring - a new beginning. The blossoms’ transience, the extreme beauty and quick demise, is an enduring metaphor for the fleeting nature of life.
